How to Create, Save and Use a Watchlist on CeylonCharts
Keep the CSE stocks you follow in one place with live prices. How to add stocks, save named watchlists to your account and put them to work.
Most investors follow a handful of stocks closely: the ones they own, the ones they’re waiting to buy, and a few sector leaders for context. A watchlist keeps those stocks side by side with their latest prices, one click from each chart.
This guide shows how to build a watchlist on CeylonCharts, save it to your account, keep several lists for different purposes, and use them day to day.
1. Open the watchlist
On the toolbar down the right-hand side of the chart, click the Watchlist button. The panel opens beside the chart.
To add stocks and save lists you need to sign in. If you aren’t signed in, the + button takes you to the sign-in page.
2. Add stocks
Click + (Add symbol) at the top of the panel. In the Add to watchlist search box, type a symbol or company name, e.g. “Sampath” or “SAMP,” and click the result. The search stays open, so you can add several stocks in a row. Close it when you’re done.
You’ll notice that any stock you open through the main search at the top of the page is added to your watchlist too. That means stocks you’ve been researching collect there automatically, so tidy up now and then (see step 5).
3. Read the list
Each row shows:
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Symbol | The ticker, with the company name underneath |
| Value | The latest price in LKR |
| Chg | The change in LKR from the previous close |
| Chg% | The same change as a percentage, green for up and red for down |
Prices update every 30 seconds while the panel is open. During trading hours they show the latest trade; outside trading hours they show the last closing price.
Click a column heading to sort by it, and click again to reverse the order. Sorting by Chg% is a quick way to see your best and worst movers of the day.
Click any row to open that stock’s chart. The stock you’re viewing is highlighted in the list, so you can move through your whole list one chart at a time.
Example: a bank watchlist
Here’s a simple watchlist of five listed commercial banks, as it stood at the close on 25 September 2026:
| Symbol | Value | Chg | Chg% |
|---|---|---|---|
| COMB.N0000 | 204.00 | −0.50 | −0.24% |
| DFCC.N0000 | 124.00 | 0.00 | 0.00% |
| HNB.N0000 | 383.50 | −0.50 | −0.13% |
| NDB.N0000 | 110.00 | +1.25 | +1.15% |
| SAMP.N0000 | 141.00 | +0.75 | +0.53% |
At a glance you can see that the sector had a quiet day, with NDB the strongest of the five. One click on NDB opens its chart to see whether the move means anything.
4. Save your watchlist
The list you’re building is kept in your browser. Save it to store it in your account, so it’s there when you sign in on another computer or your phone:
- Click Save watchlist… at the bottom of the panel.
- Type a name, e.g. “Banks,” and press Enter or click Save.
The panel header now shows the list’s name.
Update a saved list
When you add or remove stocks from a saved list, the footer shows Unsaved changes and a dot appears after the list’s name. Click:
- Update to save the changes to that list, or
- Save as… to keep the original and save the new version under a different name.
5. Keep several lists and switch between them
Once you have a saved list, the panel header becomes a menu. Click the list’s name to see all your saved watchlists and how many stocks each holds:
- Click a list to load it.
- Click Add new… to save the current stocks as another list.
- Hover over a list and click × to delete it.
To remove a single stock from the current list, hover over its row and click the small × next to the symbol. Then Update if you want the saved list to change too.
Plan limits: the free Basic plan lets you save one watchlist of up to 20 stocks. Pro removes both limits.
Ways to use your watchlists
- “Holdings” and “Waiting to buy.” Keep what you own separate from what you’re watching for an entry point, and check both each day.
- One list per sector. A “Banks,” “Plantations” or “Hotels” list shows how a whole group moved. Compare it with the sector’s rank on the Sectors page.
- Results season. Before companies report, build a list of those due to announce, then work through it as results come out. Our guide to P/E, P/BV and dividend yield covers what to look at.
- From the screener to a shortlist. Run a screen (see how to screen CSE stocks), add the most interesting results to a list, and follow them for a few weeks before deciding anything.
- Pair it with alerts. A watchlist tells you what’s happening when you look. Alerts tell you when you’re not looking. Set price alerts on the levels that matter for the stocks on your list.
Keep it useful
A watchlist of 60 stocks is just a second market screen. Keep each list short enough to review properly: 10–20 stocks is plenty for most people. Remove stocks once you’ve decided you’re not interested, so the list stays focused.
